The new MacBook Pro comes with an awesome feature, Touch ID! Follow these steps to learn how to setup and manage your Touch ID on MacOS. Touch ID is very useful for authenticating purchases within apps using your fingerprint rather than entering your account password. This is a more secure form of authentication and also makes the process much faster. Unfortunately, not everything is perfect. Now you’ll be in the System Preferences pane for Touch ID and it’ll look like this: You can delete your fingerprint from here entirely if you want, or retain its functionality with other parts of MacOS X by simply unchecking the box “Unlocking your Mac“. My laptop (MacBook Pro, 13in 2016, 4 thunderbolt-3 ports, macOS v 10.14.3) has recently starting requiring my password every time I unlock the screen. It tells me that the Password is Required to Unlock TouchID, but TouchID is never enabled. If I wait until the screen locks (just a couple of minutes) I am again required to enter my password. TouchID is not an option.

At the same time, after entering my password there is a significant delay before logging me in. On the order of 30 seconds or more. This started at the same time.
